Founder Nason Tackett is a Computer Engineer who designs equipment for well known professional audio company, Hear Technologies, during the day. But at night he enjoys using those skills for developing his own ideas. In 2010 while snowboarding, he had the idea to put motion-responsive, color-changing LEDs on his snowboard. After modifying his snowboard and receiving an overwhelming response from onlookers on the slopes, he decided to mass-produce this idea.
"It was not an easy design. The surface of a snowboard is a very harsh enviroment! It took years to perfect the mechanical design so that it was rugged enough to survive the extreme conditions. We had to work with the factories to use custom materials for the LEDs, the circuit boards, the solder, and the tubing that the lights go inside. These are not off-the-shelf LED strips by any means!"
